We believe the Bible is the written Word of God; it was given by the working of the Holy Spirit upon its human authors and is trustworthy and authoritative in all that it teaches. We believe that there is only one true God and that He is eternal Spirit, without body or shape. He has made everything that exists and is present everywhere in His universe yet separate from it, ruling over it and directing it according to His purposes. There is no limit to His knowledge or His power. He is holy, just, wise, loving and compassionate. He is faithful; He always keeps His Word. We believe He has revealed Himself to be One God yet three equal persons in His Oneness, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

We believe that man was created in the image of God for fellowship with God, but that his choice to disobey God marred that image, alienated him from God, left him dead in sin and subject to God’s wrath.

We believe that God has come to us in Jesus, who is both perfect God and perfect man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross, bearing our guilt and making a full atonement for our sin. He rose on the third day from the grave and ascended into heaven, from which we expect Him to return in glory to claim His Church and to judge the world.

We believe that sinful people may be restored to God, given full forgiveness, cleansing from sin and new life with God. We believe this cannot be earned or merited in any way, but that God gives it as a free gift to those who repent of our sins and trust solely in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

We believe that the Holy Spirit brings sinners to see their need of Christ, enables them to trust in Him and gives them new life in Him. We believe He lives permanently within all who so trust Christ, giving them power to walk with God in righteousness, peace, and joy and changing them so that they become more and more like our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe that following Jesus requires of us a life of holiness before God, unity with one another and love to all people. We believe that such a life is the true evidence that we have received new life with God through the Lord Jesus.

We believe that following Christ involves us in spiritual warfare against Satan and the powers of darkness. We believe that Satan cannot rob us of our salvation but by temptation and trial he seeks to lead us to dishonour Christ or to prevent us from offering our joyful service. Although Satan has been defeated by Christ at the Cross, he is not to be taken lightly and can be overcome by the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. We are called to resist personal temptation and social evils in the Name and power of Christ.

We believe that God’s purpose in salvation is not only to save individuals, but to create a new community to show His glory and that this new community is the Church of Jesus Christ.

We believe that the Church includes all believers of all time, and comes to expression in local churches which are faithful to Him. We believe that the Holy Spirit gives Christians spiritual gifts which are to be used to build the Church to the glory of God.

We believe that our Lord has given two ordinances to His Church to deepen its experience of His grace: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism testifies of a believer’s union with Christ, and seals his commitment to live the resurrection life of Christ. The Lord’s Supper, when taken in faith reminds believers of Christ’s atoning death for them, draws them into deeper communion with Him and gives a foretaste of the eternal communion which they will one day enjoy with Him.

We believe that there is a life to come after this one; that at death believers go to be with the Lord to await the time of Christ’s return when we shall be given new glorious bodies and enter a new world with Christ. We also believe that those who have not believed on Christ will be resurrected to eternal death in the place called hell.
